Messages to Heaven

I went to group last night and wanted to share something that I realized while there.  We were studying Step 11 and as we were reading through the step we came across the paragraph where it says:
Where prayer and meditation used to be a neglected duty, your heart's desire is now to kneel before your Father at least morning and evening and pour out your heart to Him in gratitude for Jesus and for the Holy Ghost.
I remember reading this excerpt early in recovery and feeling such relief as I thought 'oh good, I don't have to worry about praying regularly until Step 11.'  I had such a hard time remembering to pray even once a day in my heart let alone actually on my knees.  I had gone so long being cut off from communication with my Father in Heaven that believing and remembering He was really there; really listening, was a completely foreign concept to me.  My ability to properly communicate with Him and hear Him had been stunted.

Reading this excerpt again yesterday opened my mind up to be able to see the progress I have made in this area.  Not only did I reach the goal of kneeling and praying daily but I have far surpassed that.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I actually kneel and pray all day long, but I do actually pray all day long.  Heavenly Father is always in my heart and mind throughout the day.  I will see a beautiful sunset and immediately thank him, or I'll get some good news and I'll immediately thank him, or I'll run into a bit of bad luck and I'll immediately ask for strength and wisdom to get me through it.

These gratitude's and prayers are what nurture my personal relationship with Him.  Allowing Him into my heart a little bit at a time consistently throughout the day makes it much easier to open up to Him and trust Him with the bigger issues when they come along.

I found a song that perfectly mirrors my thoughts on this topic as well.  It's my new favorite song.  It's called Better Than a Hallelujah by Amy Grant and I want to share it with you:

As important as our hallelujahs are to our Father it is also important that we simply be ourselves with Him.  We should cry out to Him and deliver our sorrow, heartache and fear at His feet.  He will take them and give us refuge, peace and comfort in return.  We should also express our joys, accomplishments and milestones to Him.  He wants to hear about everything going on in our lives, not just the hard moments but everything.

I'm so grateful for the very individual and personal relationship I have with my Father in Heaven.  I'm grateful for as much as I communicate with Him, He pours out acknowledgement that he hears my prayers as well as blesses me with the most divine personal revelation.  The closer I grow to Him the more I can't wait to return to Him and dwell in His presence again.

    1. Rose, I'm so glad to hear from you. I admit, I've wondered if you were still around since I haven't heard from you. You are in my prayers! You have many people rooting for you as I often hear the question "have you heard from Rose yet?" Your Savior is here when you are ready... and so am I:-)
